Forklift tires come in various types, and the choice of tire depends on factors such as the type of forklift, the operating environment, and the specific tasks the forklift will perform.

TYPES OF TIRES

CUSHION TIRES

These are solid rubber tires made of a smooth, solid rubber compound. Suitable for indoor use on smooth, flat surfaces, such as warehouse floors. Provide good stability and are known for their durability. Cushion tires are not well-suited for outdoor use or rough terrain.

PNEUMATIC TIRES

These are air-filled tires that resemble those on traditional vehicles. Available in two main types: solid pneumatic and pneumatic (air-filled) tires. Solid pneumatic tires are puncture-proof and well-suited for outdoor use on rough surfaces. Pneumatic tires provide a smoother ride and are ideal for outdoor applications where shock absorption is important.

POLYURETHANE TIRES:

These are solid tires made of polyurethane material. Commonly used for light-duty indoor applications. Offer good traction and are non-marking, making them suitable for applications where floor cleanliness is essential.

NON-MARKING TIRES:

Non-marking tires are often made of white or light-colored rubber compounds. Designed for indoor use where floor cleanliness is a priority. Commonly used in applications such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, and electronics manufacturing.

Choosing the right forklift tire is crucial to optimize the performance of the forklift and ensure safety in the workplace. Factors such as load capacity, surface conditions, and the type of tasks the forklift will perform play a role in determining the most appropriate tire for a particular application. Regular maintenance, including proper tire inflation and inspections, is essential to ensure the longevity and safe operation of forklift tires.

WHY CHANGE YOUR FORKLIFT TIRES

A commonly accepted guideline for gauging the need for tire replacement involves checking if the tread wear extends slightly beyond the imprinted section containing the brand name and tire size. Additionally, many tire brands incorporate a wear bar indicator for this purpose.

During a tire inspection, be attentive to the presence of cracks, splits, or if the tread is significantly depleted, resulting in a smooth surface, as these are indications that replacement is necessary. In the case of cushion tires, it is advisable to replace the tire if there are observable signs of separation from its band.
