Selective Rack Storage

The most common type of pallet racking in use today is selective rack. Selective racking is the de facto standard in most warehouses and distribution facilities because it is simple, affordable, and long-lasting.

With these types of systems, all pallets are loaded and unloaded from the face of the rack, giving you immediate access to practically any pallet in the warehouse. Although selective rack is not as dense as other types of storage systems, its ease of use makes it a popular choice.

Selective rack systems, which are made of structural or roll formed steel, may be easily expanded or changed.

Give us a call today if you need assistance designing a pallet racking system or simply need additional uprights, beams, or other components for an existing system.

Selective Rack

Selective racks are the most widely used pallet racks on the market, and they come in a wide range of gauges, styles and sizes. These racks are made with either structural or roll formed steel beams and uprights that are attached with bolts or teardrop connections. Welch offers both standard single deep and double deep selective pallet racks. You can also select different varieties of pallet rack decking and accessories depending on your use case and load capacity. Choose from standard wire decking, plywood, solid steel or slotted/perforated steel depending on your requirements.

Cantilever Rack

Cantilever racks are the ideal storage type for very large or long products (lumber, bar stock, piping, etc). Cantilever racking is made up of arms fastened to a beam at a single end. The structural arms can be configured to accommodate specific products and lengths, while the aisle side of the rack provides free access to forklifts.

Pallet Flow Rack

Pallet flow racks are configured with sloping shelves, decked with skate-wheels or roller conveyors. Pallets are filled from an aisle in the back of the racking structure and they progress down the declining platform as pallets are unloaded from the face.
This type of storage rack is a “FIFO” (first in / first out) approach and it’s well suited for a large stock of heavy products. Pallet flow racks are often used in the beverage industry.

Carton Flow

Carton flow racks are skate wheel , gravity-driven racks that are good for operations with many different SKUs. This category of racking uses sloped shelving with a loading lane on the high side and a retrieval lane on the low side, enabling a FIFO product inventory rotation. Sloped shelves also enhance visibility, enabling greater fulfillment accuracy. Carton flow equipment is ideal for piece or split case picking.

Drive In Rack

Drive-in racking is a high density industrial racking design that drives efficiencies in productivity and space. Pallets are supported by rails anchored to the uprights. Lift trucks are allowed to freely move in and out of each pallet bay column. Numerous types of businesses use drive-in racking, especially those with large volumes of identical items.
A few applications for drive-in pallet racking are food manufacturing, food service, grocery, import/export, chemicals and bulk product handling.
Because drive-in racks are loaded from the front, management of inventory is in a “first-in/last-out” order.

Push Back Rack

Push back storage equipment is loaded from a front aisle, and pallets travel up sloped tracks on specially designed carts. As new pallets are added from the front, they push the pallets behind them up the incline. In contrast to flow racks, push back rack configurations don’t require a loading aisle behind them and can be set up for greater warehouse density. On the other hand, because all products are loaded from the front, pallets must be handled on a “last in/first out” basis which isn’t suitable for industries with perishable goods. Similar to pallet flow racks, push back racks are best for large quantities of identical merchandise.

Boltless Shelving

Along with pallet racking, Welch offers a full range of boltless shelving in light, medium and heavy duty formats. This style of shelves is ideal for light industrial or shop use, shipping operations, record archives, parts and many other purposes that require less weight support. Customers can order decks as regular particle board, solid metal or wire decking. No bolts, nuts, screws or additional small parts are needed for setup of this product, so installation is quite simple. Add accessories like side panels, work tables, post caps, tie plates or footplates.
